To measure the density of a lure, follow these steps:
-
Prepare the following items:
-
A glass of water
-
A scale with a precision of 1-2 decimal places (measured in grams)
-
The lure
-
-
Weigh the lure when it is dry.
-
Using a pair of pliers, hold the hook eye (connector) of the lure and submerge it into the water. Ensure that the lure does not touch the bottom or sides of the glass, and avoid submerging the pliers into the water.

The weight measured in step 3 represents the weight of the water displaced by the lure.
Given that the density of freshwater is 1 g/cm³, you can calculate the density of the lure using the following equation:

This calculation will indicate how much additional weight the lure can take before it starts to sink.
